Bris Avrohom Sponsors Camp in Chernovtsy

(Courtesy of Bris Avrohom) Rabbi Mendy Glitenstein, Chabad rabbi of Chernovtsy, opened an overnight camp for the children who were rescued from the torn-apart Ukrainian cities of Kharkiv, Kiev, Zaporizhia, Chernigov and Chernovtsy. In general, camp is a time for children in public schools to gain a Jewish connection. This year, however, in addition to the spiritual advantage, it also provides respite from the fear and bombing they experienced in their hometowns. The camp gives the 70 children who attend a warm place to be with hot, kosher meals and an opportunity to play with friends and learn about their Jewish heritage. Rabbi Glitenstein’s daughters run the camp and tend to the children in a way that makes them feel safe and cared-for. The Glitenstein family treats the children as their own, and the campers feel the warmth of being part of the global Jewish nation, with the knowledge that people across the ocean are providing for their well-being with their donations to the camp.

Rabbi Glitenstein asked Bris Avrohom and Rabbi Mordechai Kanelsky to help sponsor the camp. Thanks to dedicated members of Bris Avrohom’s board, who requested to remain anonymous, the money to help the children was donated.

Bris Avrohom became involved in rescuing and aiding the Jewish communities in Ukraine since the onset of the war five months ago. Bris Avrohom came to the aid of Zhytomyr, Kherson and Zaporosnjya, giving the rabbis at the front lines the feeling that they were not abandoned.

Thanks in part to the generous support of those who came forward, close to 1000 people were rescued. With continued support, Bris Avrohom will have the ability to help save many more as the war still rages, by providing essentials such as food, clothing and medications
