The excitement never ends at WTA. Last week, students of all ages continued to learn Torah, emulating pre-k and building their own ohel Avraham in each of the early childhood classes. Truly taking to heart the concept of “chanoch lana’ar al pi darko, teach a child according to his way” every grade learns Torah differently. Even in the youngest grades, the Montessori program guides and directs the 2- and 3-year-olds in pouring juice and cutting fruit (under careful supervision) for the guests that visited their ohel.

On Friday, in honor of Veterans’ Day, Sergeant Allan Weitzman, a veteran of the Vietnam War, came to speak with WTA middle school students. Sergeant Weitzman shared about his experiences, focusing specifically on being a Jew in the U.S. Army. The students enjoyed hearing his story and he was happy to clarify some misconceptions that are often held about being a practicing Jew in the military; Far from feeling discriminated against, Sergeant Weitzman shared his positive experiences, and explained how his superiors made him feel like a part of the family, making sure that he always had kosher food while continuing to serve our country with his brothers in arms. WTA is grateful to Sergeant Weitzman and to all the veterans who have served our country, keeping us safe.

WTA also had the opportunity to welcome new families at Wednesday’s Open House for prospective parents. It was such a treat to meet so many new families and share the school with them. WTA continues to grow, drawing more families from Riverdale, Connecticut, and throughout Westchester County, and attendance at the Open House showed clearly that the outreach is working. With almost thirty families in attendance, enrollment for the ‘23-’24 school year is already on track to be overflowing!
