Bruriah High School’s mock trial team continued to dominate its Union County competition as its defense emerged victorious in last week’s face-off at the Elizabeth Courthouse.
The team was comprised of all high school grades, rather than just seniors as had been done in prior years. Coached by Mrs. Debbie Oratz, the team was also mentored by real-life attorneys Mr. Ira Heller and Mr. David Kalerstein, as well as by law students.
Last year Bruriah’s team made it all the way to the finals, the only yeshiva day school to do so. The next few weeks will see Bruriah continue to face new teams as they progress through the trial, which is presided over by an authentic sitting judge. The details of the civil case currently being argued will only be made public at the final stage of the competition.
