(Courtesy of Yeshivat Kerem B’Yavneh) American Friends of Yeshivat Kerem B’Yavneh will be holding its annual dinner on Wednesday evening, November 8, at the Lincoln Square Synagogue in New York City in honor of the first yahrzeit of KBY’s longtime director, Mr. Eli Klein, z”l. Rabbi Daniel Z. Feldman, rosh yeshiva at Yeshiva University and rabbi of the Ohr Saadya shul in Teaneck, and his wife, Rebbetzin Leah (née Feuerstein) Feldman, will be honored as Rabbinic Alumnus Couple of the Year.
Yeshivat Kerem B’Yavneh (KBY) is proud to announce two new additions to its Overseas Program. Rabbi Shalom Rosner has been appointed as a Ra”m (Talmud lecturer), and Rabbi Yehuda Lapian has been appointed as the Menahel (dean).
Rav Rosner has begun delivering twice-weekly shiurim at the KBY campus, and he has inaugurated a Thursday night mishmar (extra study) program. Rav Rosner and his family will frequently spend Shabbat on the KBY campus throughout this school year. He will become a full-time Ra”m at the start of the school year in August 2018.
A graduate of Yeshiva University, Rabbi Shalom Rosner earned a BA in economics and a master’s from the Azrieli Graduate School of Jewish Education and Administration. A musmach of RIETS, Rav Rosner was a member of the Beren Kollel Elyon and a Kupietsky Kodshim Fellow. Rabbi Rosner invested two full years in Israel after high school, learning in Yeshivat Sha’alvim. Rav Rosner was a popular Maggid Shiur in YU’s Stone Beis Medrash Program, and rabbi of Congregation Bais Ephraim Yitzchok—the “Island Shul”—in Woodmere, New York, for six years, before making aliyah in August 2008 to become the visionary Mara D’atra of the Nofei Hashemesh community in Beit Shemesh. During the summers, Rav Rosner is camp rabbi and educational director at Camp Kaylie. Rav Rosner’s popular Daf Yomi, Parshat HaShavua, Nach and Sefer Hamitzvot shiurim (lectures) are broadcast online and followed by thousands of global talmidim at www.ou.org. Rav Rosner is married to Dr. Rabanit Tamar Rosner, a pediatrician. They have seven children.
Rav Yehuda Lapian spent 11 years learning at KBY in its Hesder and Kollel programs, serving as an active-duty tank driver in the Armored Corps of the IDF and receiving a degree in education from Moreshet Yaakov. Yeshivat Kerem B’Yavneh is honored that Rav Yehuda is returning in an official capacity, joining the experienced administrative team of Rav Mendel Blachman, Menahel Chinuchi; Rav David Zahtz, program director; and Rav Zvi Davidson, mashgiach. A great-grandson of the famed mashgiach Rabbi Elyah Lapian, Rav Yehuda was born in Israel to parents who themselves were olim from the United Kingdom and the United States of America. After receiving ordination from the Chief Rabbinate in Israel, Rav Yehuda served as the Rosh Kollel of Kollel Torah Mitzion in Greater Washington from 2006 through 2010. During this time, he built very strong relationships with the members of the community. These relationships continued even after he returned with his family to Israel in 2011. Rav Yehuda then taught in the Yeshiva High School in Ramat Gan where he was beloved for his warmth and dedication to his students. Rav Yehuda and his wife, Shoshi, have four children.
These appointments mark another highlight of an exciting time at Kerem B’Yavneh, as they join our recently inaugurated Co-Roshei HaYeshiva, HaRav Aharon Friedman and HaRav Gabriel Saraf. HaRav Mordechai Greenberg has been named Nasi HaYeshiva after serving for 23 years as Rosh HaYeshiva, following in the footsteps of his rebbe, the founding Rosh HaYeshiva, HaRav Chaim Yaakov Goldvicht, zt”l.
The Overseas Program at Yeshivat Kerem B’Yavneh continues to produce Torah scholars and learned community leaders in Israel and in communities worldwide.
