(MTA Sports) What a weekend for the MTA Lions varsity softball team! Opening up the May 14-16 weekend with a big 2-1 win over Frisch, the Lions traveled to Deal to face off against the Hillel Heat. The trip was long, but the team stayed focused on the main goal of winning and making it back home in time for Shabbos. The Lions opened up the game with defensive gem innings, leading to Hillel hitting into a 1-2-3 inning each of the first two innings. In the third inning, the Lions gave up a few base runners but eventually got out of the inning without giving up a run. The offense finally sparked in the fifth inning when junior Ezra Landa hit a rocket to deep left field that landed him a triple. Junior Eitan Warum then hit a high pop up to deep right field, which Landa used to tag up and score. In the sixth inning, Hillel looked like they were going to score, but a throw from right field to the infield was flipped by junior Sam Richman to junior Donny Book, who tagged out the base runner at the plate to save the run and end the inning. The Lions held on, won the game and made it home in time for Shabbos.
