(Courtesy of Shine a Light) This Chanukah, as thousands around the world are engaged in efforts to Shine a Light on all forms of antisemitism, we commit to providing our students with campuses where antisemitism is not tolerated. Antisemitic acts and expressions are increasingly common in our country and in our world, and examples of that intolerance have been occurring more frequently on college and university campuses across the country.
All our students deserve the opportunity to have a transformative and positive educational experience from the day they arrive to the day they earn their degree. However, acts and expressions of antisemitism—in any form—undermine the educational process and our core values.
We commit to working with our Jewish community on campus to root out antisemitism in all its forms, including when hatred towards Jews is veiled as anti-Zionism. Zionism is a key component of the religious, ancestral and ethnic identity of many students on our campus. It is never acceptable to harass, intimidate, marginalize, exclude or demonize any part of our university community on the basis of its identity.
At this holiday time for people of many faith traditions, we should proudly embrace our unique heritages while standing united against antisemitism and all forms of discrimination. They have no place on our campus.
