(Courtesy of the Moriah School) Teachers at The Moriah School were treated to a weeklong celebration of gratitude, flavors and global flair during the school’s 2025 Teacher Appreciation Week, organized by the Moriah Association of Parents (MAP) and supported by generous parent sponsors.
The theme, “A Trip Around the World,” took teachers on a five-day journey of culinary experiences, thoughtful gestures and heartfelt thanks — all designed to honor their dedication and the profound impact they have on students and the community.
A Culinary Passport of Gratitude
Each day of the week featured a new destination, beginning with Monday’s Parisian breakfast, where staff were greeted with fresh coffee and French pastries by Cafe DeMi. The elegant start offered a cozy and energizing welcome into the week of appreciation. On Tuesday, teachers were treated to a vibrant sushi lunch, courtesy of Moriah’s board of trustees. The carefully curated meal symbolized the precision and care that teachers bring to the classroom every day.
Wednesday brought the warmth of Israel with a classic Israeli lunch, celebrating shared values and the cultural roots that help shape Moriah’s mission. Staff enjoyed traditional flavors in an atmosphere of connection and pride.
Thursday offered a sweet detour with a variety of gelato selections, providing a cool and cheerful break during the busy school day. Teachers took time to relax and enjoy one another’s company while savoring the flavors of Italy. The week concluded with a bold and festive Texas-style BBQ platter curated specially for Moriah teachers by The Wandering Que and sourdough to-go on Friday, a hearty way to wrap up the global journey.
The week’s success was made possible through the leadership and coordination of MAP, whose volunteers, Daniela Gontownik and Rebecca Markoff, worked behind the scenes to ensure a smooth, enjoyable experience for all faculty and staff. From organizing meals to designing the global theme, parents came together to show their collective gratitude for Moriah’s educators.
“This week was about more than food,” said Tamara Goldin and Lindsay Setton, MAP co-presidents. “It was about showing our teachers how deeply they are valued, not just for what they teach, but for who they are and what they bring to our children’s lives.”
MAP also expressed deep appreciation to the over 60 family sponsors who helped fund the initiative, making it possible to provide high quality treats and a rich experience throughout the week.
In today’s educational landscape, teachers are called upon to go far beyond academics — supporting students socially, emotionally and spiritually. Teacher Appreciation Week served as an important reminder that their efforts are seen, valued and celebrated.
The international theme underscored the idea that teachers have a global impact — not just in what they teach, but in how they shape the minds and hearts of the next generation.
As the week ended, one thing was clear: Moriah’s teachers are more than educators — they are mentors, guides and heroes. Whether enjoying gelato in the teacher’s lounge or an iced latte in their classrooms, the message remained the same: Thank you. We see you. We appreciate you.
Teacher Appreciation Week 2025 will be remembered not only for its creativity and cuisine but for the deep sense of community it fostered between parents and teachers — a partnership that is at the very heart of Moriah’s success.
