Amid Skyrocketing Antisemitism On Campuses, Provocative Billboards Raise Awareness

Jersey Ave. & Howe Lane.

(Courtesy of JewBelong) JewBelong, a national nonprofit organization that fights antisemitism and makes Judaism accessible, is putting up three new billboards in New Brunswick targeting college campus antisemitism. Both billboards went up on October 7, 2024, and say: “Dear colleges, American kids are afraid. Do your job!” They will stay up from October 7 to December 1.

In 2023, New Jersey experienced a 103% increase in antisemitic incidents from 2022, echoing a nationwide rise in antisemitism, and the New Brunswick area has not been immune.

“It’s a terrifying time to be a Jewish college student. Jewish students do not feel safe and are up against some of the worst antisemitism of our lifetime. It’s outrageous and wouldn’t be tolerated if it was another marginalized community being treated like this,” said JewBelong Co-Founder Archie Gottesman. “A number of Jewish organizations are speaking up against the hate but there need to be more voices in the conversation. Schools need to do better and Jewish students deserve to be safe on campus.”
