Hailing from Jerusalem’s Jewish Institute for the Blind, a blind man who expertly fixes bicycles and teaches guitar lessons for a living will soon embark on a journey to the United States. His mission: to inspire and empower more than 1,000 middle school children in multiple day schools across Bergen County and South Florida.

A Story of Perseverance

Blind since early childhood, Dani Shachar has a 60-year relationship with the “JIB.” Known as “Dani the Bike Fixer,” he has never allowed his disability to hinder his dreams or ambitions. Instead, he has embraced his condition, turning it into a source of strength and determination. Through his work at the Jewish Institute for the Blind, he has mastered the art of bicycle repair and guitar playing, proving that with dedication and passion, one can overcome any obstacle.

His journey to the United States April 30-May 11 marks a significant milestone in his life, as he sets out to share his story with young minds in the U.S. for the very first time. His many speeches in Israel are more than just words; they are a testament to the power of belief and resilience. He encourages children to believe in themselves, to strive for their dreams, and to develop a resilience that only someone who has faced and overcome tremendous challenges can teach.

Inspiring Middle School Students

During his visit, Shachar will speak in English at various day schools in Bergen County and South Florida. His message is clear: No matter the circumstances, every individual has the potential to achieve greatness. He uses his personal experiences to illustrate the importance of perseverance, hard work, and self-belief.

With over 1,000 middle school students eagerly anticipating his arrival, his speeches are expected to leave a lasting impact. He aims to empower these young minds to embrace their uniqueness, to face challenges head-on, and to never give up on their dreams.

Workshops in Teaneck

In addition to Shachar’s school visits, there will be an opportunity for individuals to support the JIB- Beit Chinuch Ivrim in Hebrew—or register for a workshop at a private home in the Teaneck area. These workshops are designed to offer a more intimate setting where attendees can engage with him on a personal level, gaining deeper insights into his experiences and learning valuable life lessons.

Those interested in having their children attend these workshops with their bicycles in tow, or simply supporting his mission, can visit the Jewish Institute for the Blind’s website at www.jewishblind.org. Here, they can find more information and register for these unique and impactful sessions.

Through his unwavering spirit and determination, Dani Shachar is not only fixing bicycles and teaching guitar lessons but also mending hearts and minds, guiding our kids towards a path of self-belief and resilience.
