As part of the fifth grade Realistic Fiction unit, students read the novel “Wonder,” by RJ Palacio. The story tells of the experiences of a boy who has a craniofacial anomaly and his interactions with his peers. The students focused on plot and character development. In addition to the literary components, the students delved into the concept of kindness and acceptance of others. The conversations were so powerful and moving and showed how much they were impacted by their fourth grade unit about people with disabilities.
