Among the participants were Binghamton University President Harvey Stenger, VP of Student Affairs Brian Rose and others.

During the pre-Shabbat program, participants enjoyed delicious Shabbat appetizers, wrapped Tefillin, joined a tribute to our brothers and sisters in Israel, heard greetings from President Stenger and NCAA football player Sam Salz, and kicked up a dancing storm. The program culminated with hundreds of women lighting Shabbat candles and ushering in Shabbat.

In the post-Oct. 7 era, this event took on even greater significance. As the Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem M Schneerson of righteous memory, always taught, darkness can only be banished with light, and hatred with indiscriminate love. Shabbat 2400 provided a magnificent display of unity, pride and strength.

Originally dubbed Shabbat 1000, the program has evolved into a longstanding tradition that has since been replicated on more than 150 campuses throughout the world. To this day, Binghamton maintains the record for the largest number of students gathered in one space for a Shabbat dinner. Mega Shabbat (2400 in Binghamton) is a National Chabad on Campus Initiative.
