BPY Combines Education and Fun to Celebrate Chanukah

Ben Porat Yosef students celebrated Chanukah with an array of activities and events that were both educational and fun. The BPY choir sang at the Paramus town hall to usher in Chanukah on the first night of the chag. On the first day, December 13, the school broke the Guinness World Record for the largest human chanukiah, with dignitaries on hand to witness the event. In school, the students lit Chanukah candles together each day, and also had several educational activities.

On Monday, December 18 the students participated in “Chanukiada,” in which classes each participated in different stations and students rotated around each class to learn about different aspects of Chanukah. Examples of the stations included: discussing the chemical properties and characteristics of oil and water and participating in experiments; having an Escape the Room where the clues were embedded in questions about Chanukah; Chanukah bingo, in which students had to test their knowledge and respond to different clues to get bingo. Finally, the grades participated in a glow-in-the-dark carnival created by the school’s bnot sherut to celebrate this festival of lights. The booths were organized around the themes of Chanukah, and included: find the sevivon, find the special Chanukah words and more.
