Ben Porat Yosef fifth grade students in Rabbi Ilan Acoca’s class celebrated the conclusion of their study of their halacha book with a beautiful siyum. Students had learned the laws of kashrut, brachot and Yom Tov, among other topics, over the course of the year. Rav Acoca gave a Dvar Torah about this week’s parsha, Korach. He noted that the name Korach possesses the same letters as “kerach,” ice in Hebrew, hinting to the fact that when Korach served Hashem, he did so icily, without feeling or emotion behind it, teaching the students the importance of serving Hashem with warmth and purpose.
