Linking Northern and Central NJ, Bronx, Manhattan, Westchester and CT

Last week, the first and second grade mathematicians were thrilled to practice their measurement skills inch by inch at BPY’s annual Math Night. The evening started with a catchy song about standard and non-standard measurement. Mrs. Maron then read the story “How Big Is a Foot?” by Rolf Myller. The children then used their measurement skills as they played tic-tac-toe. Before making a move, they had to measure the length of their hair or the width of their smile. The children went on a measurement scavenger hunt and explored the sizes of items around the room. The evening ended with an arts and crafts project. The Measurement Monsters that the children created each had a unique personality and distinct measurements. While sharing their monsters, the children enjoyed snacking on Fruit by the Foot! It measured up to a great night!
