Moe Hirsch Brings Safety to Heating and Cooling Your Home

In the words of rags-to-riches entrepreneur Jim Rhone: “Formal education will make you a living; self-education will make you a fortune!” Moe Hirsch of Rockland County subscribes to this formula. Even before opening his own business five years ago, Hirsch made it a point to continue his education on his own terms through trade organizations and manufacturer-sponsored training. The level of detail and product-specific knowledge he has acquired on his own allow him to offer what he calls “specialty heating” to his clients and the general public.

Moe’s Plumbing and Heating attracts many Orthodox households in New York and New Jersey. Moe’s mission is to inform his client base on the optimum care of their heating, cooling and plumbing equipment. He often finds that he must convince his customers that buying bargain equipment for the home can be a huge mistake long term. “If you consider that you are purchasing a boiler, for example, that will serve you well for 20 years, simply break down the cost per year and it becomes apparent that you are spending more per year on your Motzei Shabbat pizza than on heating your home properly.”

Hirsch began his profession in heating and combustion 10 years ago and expanded into plumbing and cooling. He services residential as well as commercial properties including schools and mikvaot. Moe’s Plumbing and Heating is a leader in the installation of high efficiency boilers and heating systems. “As a small business, we work to ensure that our services are done right, because there is more to heating and cooling than good craftsmanship.”

Hirsch educates his customers in the warning signs of faulty equipment that can prove hazardous to occupants. “Use your three senses to detect a problem. Look for any unusual accumulations of dust and ash. Be alert to any strange smells, especially of burning. Listen for odd noises emanating from your heating and cooling equipment.”

In terms of cooling, Hirsch suggests keeping your thermostat at a steady temperature. Find the proper equilibrium and keep it constant. In addition, change the batteries in your thermostat periodically for optimum efficiency. Equally important, change filters, as clogs can cause ice to build up. “Turn air conditioning off when outdoor temperature goes below 70 degrees.”

Hirsch urges his customers to check and change carbon monoxide detectors periodically, as carbon monoxide can be an odorless killer. He advises strongly that homes should have properly functioning smoke detectors. Most recently he has added flood detectors to his list of necessary equipment.

Moe’s Plumbing and Heating has an active website linked to the trade that informs clients on the latest technologies available for heating and cooling homes and commercial spaces. “We keep on top of the latest technologies and offer state-of-the-art equipment, which saves you cost and provides you with optimum efficiency for maximum periods of time.”

“Staying small allows me to be consistent and really apply what I’ve learned to every job,” says Hirsch. “I would like to expand more into Bergen County as I find New Jersey residents to be serious homeowners who take great pride in their properties and appreciate learning more about the proper and safer upkeep of their homes.”
