Shade Control Upholds a Tradition of Excellence

When speaking with Yechiel Waldman, owner of Shade Control, it is clear that he is passionate about two things: window treatments and customer service. His knowledge and experience in this field have been many years in the making. Being the third generation in this business and having worked side-by-side with his father for many years, he acquired all the tools he needed for the launch of his business in 2014. When starting Shade Control, Mr. Waldman says that he chose to service Rockland, Bergen and Passaic Counties because he knew that he could meet the quality, prices and service these residents expect.

Mr. Waldman’s extended family has a total of six different dealers in the business, each one servicing a different geographic area. Because of this, he has an advantage when it comes to bargaining with his suppliers for lower prices, which he then passes on to his consumers. “Our vendors know that we require top quality products as well as the best pricing,” he says. As a shop-at-home business, Shade Control gives customers the ultimate shopping experience in the comfort of their home while also eliminating the overhead costs of a storefront; this enables the company’s prices to be even more affordable. “Our customers love our shop-at-home service because we bring everything to them in their home or office,” he says. This process of choosing the window treatment in the actual space where it will eventually be installed allows customers and decorators to coordinate the window treatment with the room’s decor, color and specific needs. “We measure, bring all the samples and look out for any unforeseen difficulties or obstacles that can exist in the window area,” he says. Equally important, the estimates and installation are both free.

Mr. Waldman takes pride in the outstanding customer service, superior products and affordable prices that his company provides, and says that satisfied customers are his greatest advertisement. He also says that while some people try to shop at national chain stores, they learn rather quickly how unpleasant the experience can be. While the price for their selection can seem comparable, they are then surprised with additional charges for someone to come measure and then for installation; it can often even fall on the customer to find an independent installer. “I have heard from many customers how they have walked into a certain national chain and walked out very fed up. While they may be trained salespeople, they are not trained window treatment salespeople. How can you sell a product without seeing the window or knowing how to install it?”

Shade Control carries many different brands including Hunter Douglas, Lafayette, Comfortex, Graber and others. “We have a product for every taste and every budget,” Mr. Waldman says, adding that with styles constantly changing, the company maintains an up-to-date selection of products with a “current” color collection and keeps up with the latest trends, such as roller shades and “zebra blinds.” At the end of the day, Mr. Waldman says that Shade Control aims to please. “Whether it’s commercial or residential, we service every need and desire.”
