Chanukah at RKYHS incorporated fun and meaningful activities throughout the week to enhance the enjoyment of the holiday. Students competed in an Amazing Race style Chanukah competition around the building. The members of students council were the creative brains behind the competition. Another day, students were wowed with the talent and skills of The Other Mentalist in an amazing performance. They also tested their trivia knowledge in a school-wide game show with clever questions on a whole range of topics.

The week was infused with extra ruach as the Jewish Life Committee planned a “Chanukah Shteig” after school. Students led learning sessions for peers, ran a Chanukah-themed Kahoot game and enjoyed decorating (and eating) Chanukah treats. The senior girls enjoyed a fun night of bonding at their teacher Mrs. Bochner’s house, as they celebrated Chanukah together with words of Torah, fun games and good food together with other faculty. Pre-Shabbat Chanukah, students gathered for a lively tish, complete with singing, dancing, eating and raffle prizes!

As a special addition to the week’s programming, the Kushner Cobras varsity team welcomed Israeli contemporaries from Elitzur Rechovot high school. The two teams played against each other, cheered on by classmates and then the team enjoyed visiting RKYHS classes with the students. To finish off the days of outside the classroom Chanukah programming, students enjoyed a concert given by their musically talented peers.
