(Courtesy of Bris Avrohom) Last Monday, a bris was performed for a middle-aged Jew from Kiev who recently moved to New Jersey. The bris was done at the office of Dr. Jerry Friedman, who was the mohel together with Dr. Elliot Schulman. Rabbi Yochanan Markowitz, Chief Rabbi of Kiev, was instrumental in preparing the man for his bris and served as sandek.
The person receiving the bris chose his Jewish name to be Yitzchok, in connection to the parshah. He explained that through his bris he is connected to his forefather who was the first Jew to have a bris at eight days old and he exclaimed how proud he is to carry the name.
A full seudas mitzvah was served with the attendance of friends of Yitzchok who flew in from Kiev, Florida and Los Angeles to show their support.
Rabbi Mordechai Kanelsky, who organized the bris, addressed those at the seudah and expressed his admiration for Yitzchok. Rabbi Markowitz presented Yitzchok with a pair of tefillin, which Yitzchok undertook to don daily.
