chabad at rutgers hosts israeli police delegation

(Courtesy of Rutgers Chabad) Chabad House at Rutgers University hosted more than 30 officers and commanders of Israel’s police department. The officials are visiting the USA and participating in the Police Unity Tour, which honors fallen law enforcement officers. The Israeli police delegation is the largest foreign police force participating in the annual bike ride from New York City to Washington, D.C.

The Israeli officers were joined by the New Jersey State Police Superintendent, Colonel Pat Callahan, and Ed Cetnar, superintendent of Port Authority of NY-NJ Police Department. The Israeli delegation included Major General Yaniv Sofer; Major General Eran Kamin, Police Attache of the Embassy of Israel; Commander Yoni Zeituk; and Commander David Malka. The dinner party was also greeted by New Jersey-Israel Commission Executive Director Andrew Gross, Essex County Sheriff’s Office Chief Mike Safris and Rabbi Chaplain Meir Melnicke.

Rabbi Yosef Carlebach, executive director of Chabad House, and the NJSP chaplain spoke about personal experiences in Jerusalem and urged all the Israeli officers to add to the safety of all of Israel’s population by adding mitzvot to their daily schedule. Many Israeli officers immediately donned tefillin while at the Chabad House.

Rabbi Mendy Carlebach, administrator of Chabad House, and chaplain of the Port Authority police department, shared awards and mementos with the police officials.
