Solution:

Jack is told to copy over his history homework 20 times. When he returns with it copied only 14 times, the teacher asks why? He replies that he is also bad at math!

When my students say they are not good at something, I redirect them to say that they are not good “yet.” Saying “yet” leaves open the potential for growth. Just saying I am not good at something closes the door on the possibility of getting better.
