WTA Celebrates Decade of Excellence

(Courtesy of WTA) To celebrate its 10th year, Westchester Torah Academy, families and guests gathered together for the annual Shomrei Torah event. Different from other fundraising dinners, this evening was crafted specifically to celebrate valuable and meaningful moments that families have experienced over the past 10 years of WTA. The stories told over the course of the evening paralleled the story of Bnei Yisrael—a people wandering, building strength and knowledge, and finally landing in the promised land—in this case, the exquisite, state of the art campus in New Rochelle.

One story in particular was striking. On Shavuot we celebrate the receipt of the Torah and its passing down mi dor l’dor. At the Shomrei Torah event, the audience heard from a parent who is an immigrant from the former Soviet Union. She shared that her experience sending her children to WTA is a reversal of the traditional dor l’dor because in her home the children teach the parents. They sit around their Shabbat table and the children teach the parents about the parsha, new Hebrew words, tefillah and so much more. This is the beauty of Torah—it moves from generation to generation with parents teaching children and children teaching parents. This is what was celebrated at WTA’s 10th annual Shomrei Torah dinner.

Honorees at WTA’s 10th annual Shomrei Torah event included Jason Cury, president of CIJE and the Gruss Life Monument Funds; Dr. Shirah Schwartz-Jacobs and Jonathan Jacobs, some of the founding parents of the school; and Michelle Hoch, outgoing director of the Middle School.
