NORPAC Hosts Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) in Englewood

September 11—On Sunday, Adam and Dana Sasouness of Englewood hosted an outdoor NORPAC reception for Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) at their home. Born and raised in South Carolina, Tim Scott was elected to the US House of Representatives in 2011. He was fast-tracked to the US Senate in 2013 when South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley named him to fill the seat vacated by Jim DeMint.

As a member of the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing & Urban Affairs, Senator Scott discussed his role as a gatekeeper- in maintaining sanctions against countries and entities who seek to harm America and Israel. Specifically during the Iran deal (JCPOA) in 2015, Senator Scott’s committee pressed hard on the Administration not to leave Tehran with leeway to construct nuclear weapons. Tim Scott also led the vote on the Hezbollah Sanctions Act that passed last year.

Scott is the first African-American senator from the state of South Carolina, the first black Republican elected to the United States Senate since the election of Edward Brooke in 1966, and the first elected from the South since 1881, four years after the end of Reconstruction. Along with Democrat Cory Booker of New Jersey, Scott is one of two African Americans serving in the United States Senate. He will be running for re-election this November.
