RZA Conference to Be Held Sunday in Lawrence, New York

Rabbi Hershel Schachter and Bret Stephens will headline the upcoming annual convention of the Religious Zionists of America (RZA) this Sunday, November 6, from 1 to 4:30 p.m. at Congregation Beth Sholom in Lawrence, New York.

“We live at a time of great challenge and danger to the State of Israel,” said Rabbi Gideon Shloush, the recently appointed national director of the RZA. “One need only to look at the recent UNESCO resolution, ignoring the historic ties of the Jewish people to Jerusalem, to realize that a strong religious Zionist voice is needed.”

Martin Oliner, the former mayor of Lawrence and member of the presidium of RZA, added, “RZA is now ready to send its message across the country. Together with chapters in major Jewish communities, we plan to increase programming and present the positive message of the Jewish people’s connection to the Land of Israel and our commitment to Torah. But we need to engage the next generation of leadership, and for this reason we are so proud to have a dynamic new executive director.”

At the convention there will be presentations by Rabbi Schachter, rosh yeshiva of RIETS/Yeshiva University; award-winning writer and columnist Bret Stephens and World Mizrachi director, Rabbi Doron Peres and the election of the new RZA presidium, a new RZA video and a buffet dinner. There is no charge for this event. In addition, RZA will introduce 50 college students who will be sent to Israel for a special seminar and will serve as campus fellows for the Religious Zionists of America.

“This is truly an exciting time,” said Rabbi Shloush. “I look forward to working with the new RZA board, our incoming chairman, Rabbi Solomon Rybak and presidium members Martin Oliner, Rabbi Leonard Matanky and Dr. Ernest Agatstein.”
