JFCS Webinar to Help Grads Navigate Job Market

(Courtesy of JFCS) Looking for a job as a recent college graduate can be a nerve-wracking and confusing experience. Throw in a pandemic and increased unemployment rates, and even a seasoned professional would find themselves overwhelmed. Jewish Family and Children’s Services of Northern New Jersey (JFCS) understands that this is a difficult time for many unemployed individuals in the community.

Sandra Leshaw, the director of JFCS’s Re-Launch Career Services, has a background in corporate recruiting (Kraft, Unilever, Dannon) and career counseling. With her years of expertise in recruitment, Sandra knows what employers are looking for. In the last few months, she has been working on job-search strategy and resumes with recent graduates and others unemployed due to the pandemic. Re-Launch regularly receives calls from all over Bergen, Passaic and Hudson Counties asking for job-search advice.

On September 15, at 7 p.m., JFCS will be hosting a Zoom webinar, titled “I Graduated to This? The Grad’s Guide to Job-Hunting in a Pandemic,” to help college graduates navigate the 2020-2021 job market. The program will include guest speakers Scott Leibowitz, president of Your Next Move, LLC, and Amy Hirsch, an HR professional and psychologist. With years of experience, respectively, the presenters will address the need for a proactive approach to job search in this current market.

The webinar will cover the latest resume and cover-letter trends, the COVID-19 recession and how it has influenced unemployment, how to make the best of this challenging situation, networking and working remotely. The goal is for every college grad to put their best foot forward. The speakers will provide tips to help grads feel confident in their search. “We are experiencing an unconventional job market in an unusual time,” Sandra explained. “Six months into the pandemic, many employers have found their new normal, adjusting to remote working, sanitizing schedules and social-distancing protocols. Many have resumed hiring, many never stopped. There is no reason to wait for the job market to change. It’s up to you to become competitive. Update your job search materials and your process. Make yourself an outstanding candidate. We can help.”

Scott Leibowitz founded his company, Your Next Move, LLC, to support young adults in finding their career path. With over 20 years of experience in marketing, sales and journalism, Scott has used his expertise to teach young professionals how to best market themselves to employers.

Amy Hirsch is an industrial/organizational psychologist with over 25 years of experience as a human resources professional in a Fortune 500 company. She has held leadership roles in a variety of HR functions including talent and leadership development, employee assessment and selection and performance management. Her expertise spans the employee life cycle from staffing and onboarding through executive development.

Sandra, Scott and Amy will provide insight into adequately preparing for, and applying to, jobs during this pandemic. This webinar will be invaluable to anyone who feels stuck in their search.
