Learn With Lamdeinu in Elul: Where Your Chevrutot are Your Friends

(Courtesy of Lamdeinu) Lamdeinu began its Elul High Holiday program on Tuesday, September 1, and students were delighted to reunite with their friends and chevrutas as well as to meet new participants.

Lamdeinu’s mission is to give adult learners the opportunity to “study Torah in depth and be inspired” as well as to create deep and lasting friendships over their Torah study. At Lamdeinu, your teachers are your chevrutot and your chevrutot are your friends. Lamdeinu offers classes every Monday through Thursday throughout the year on topics such as Tanakch, Parshanut HaMikra, themes of the holidays, Halacha, Talmud, Parshat HaShavua as well as numerous special offerings. Their Elul semester places a special focus on the Yamim Noraim and Sukkot.

On Mondays at 10:15 a.m., starting September 14, Dean Rachel Friedman will lead her signature Parshanut HaMikra shiur for women. The class will focus on sefer Bereishit and will include guided chavruta preparation as well as a lively shiur and class discussion.

Rabbi Hayyim Angel will give a one-time shiur on September 14 at 1 p.m. on the Biblical Yishmael, and Rabbanit Sara Wolkenfeld will discuss ancient and modern connections between Yom Kippur and Purim on Monday, September 21 at 1 p.m. Men and women are invited to attend these classes.

On Tuesday mornings throughout the fall, Rabbi Gedalyah Berger will deliver an engaging and in-depth shiur on Masechet Sanhedrin. This shiur is open to women only.

At 10:15 a.m. on Wednesdays, September 2, 9 and 16, Channa Lockshin Bob will Zoom in from Modiin, Israel, to teach about ways in which one may approach Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur and Sukkot in one’s practices and mindsets. At 10:15 a.m. on Wednesday, September 23, Dean Rachel Friedman will prepare us for Shabbat Shuvah with a shiur entitled, “Our Father Our King: Shirat Ha’azinu and Yamim Noraim.” Men and women are welcome to these shiurim.

Thursdays at 11 a.m. in Elul prepare the community for Sukkot with “Halachot of Schach: Foundations and Applications,” taught by Rabbi Gedalyah Berger. Throughout the year, at 12:30 p.m., shiurim delving into each week’s parsha and Haftarah with Rabbi Daniel Fridman. Both shiurim are open to women and men.

All classes in Elul/September will take place via Zoom. Each class will be recorded. If you miss a class, you can listen to the recording at your convenience.
