IDF Inquiry: Who Leaked Information to Bennett?

Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon has instructed IDF Chief of Staff, Lt. Gen. Benny Gantz, to initiate an inquiry against a senior reservist officer who is suspected of leaking unauthorized information to Minister Naftali Bennett during Operation Protective Edge.

The senior officer has already been dismissed from his position because of passing on the information, in contravention of orders. A security establishment source said that the Jewish Home chairman used the information to attack the top IDF brass in Security Cabinet meetings.

According to a report on Channel Two, former IDF Chief Rabbi Brig. Gen. (res.) Rabbi Avichai Ronski is the officer that was dismissed by Gantz.

However, speaking to Arutz Sheva from Canada where he is currently visiting, Ronski said he had not heard of any such decision.

“I never passed IDF materials to him (Bennett),” clarified Ronski. Casting doubt on the talk of his being dismissed, he added “I do reserve duty, I did reserve duty even after the operation, and I have reserve duty on Sukkot,” referring to the Jewish holiday starting October 8.

According to Nana/10, the officer that was dismissed provided Bennett with information about the IDF’s preparations for a ground incursion, including its plans to strike Hamas’s tunnels and other weapons.

Following the leaks, an inquiry was launched that led to the officer.

Yaalon reportedly accused Bennett of making political use of military information. Minister Bennett’s bureau said in response that “the anonymous mudslinging by elements from the security/political establishment constitutes chutzpah.”

The bureau added: “Minister Bennett is proud of his actions, which led to the operation against the tunnels and saved human lives.”
