(Courtesy of NORPAC) On Tuesday, May 20, over 1,000 members of the Jewish community will gather in Washington, D.C., for the NORPAC Mission to Washington—a day dedicated to fighting for a strong U.S.-Israel relationship, where every voice matters.
Among them will be an extraordinary group: the Dor L’dor Delegation—parents, children and grandparents—standing together, generation after generation, to ensure that American Jews are heard where it matters most: the halls of Congress.
The Dor L’dor model is not just powerful—it’s a sacred responsibility.
As the soldiers of Israel defend their homeland on the battlefield, we have an equally vital mission—to stand on the front lines of Congress, advocating for Israel’s security, survival and future.
Just as we take our children to games or concerts to nurture their passions, bringing them to Congress teaches them that democracy demands action—that their voices count—and that defending Israel’s legitimacy and strength requires us to show up.
Families like the Wertentheils and Flamholzes have made NORPAC advocacy a proud, multigenerational tradition.
“Every year, we come back—parents with children, and now grandchildren,” they shared. “It’s not just about speaking to Congress—it’s about showing our kids and grandkids what it means to stand up for what’s right, together as a family.”
This sense of generational responsibility is already bearing fruit.
Yoni Gontownik, who first attended NORPAC in high school with his parents and grandparents, now devotes time to leadership within NORPAC.
“Those early experiences shaped me,” Yoni said. “Going to Washington made me realize that regular people—students, parents, grandparents—have a real voice. Today, I’m proud to help lead others and inspire the next generation to step up.”
His mother, Anne Gontownik, sees the ripple effect firsthand: “I recently received a message from my granddaughter, Ruthie, a 10th-grader at Frisch. She asked me to send her the flyer for the Mission because her friend and her friend’s father want to register. Ruthie took the initiative to recruit others. This is exactly what leadership training looks like—empowering our youth to take ownership of their future.”
Joey Small attended the Mission as a child and now brings his son: “It was incredibly meaningful to see my child experience democracy in action—to understand that as American Jews, we have a crucial role to play. While the soldiers of Israel fight heroically on the ground, we support their mission here—by connecting with Congress and influencing decisions that can help secure Israel’s future.”
Rabbi Eli Ciner, principal of Yeshivat Frisch, described the transformative impact: “Last year, I had the privilege of participating in meetings alongside Dr. Ben Chouake, the president of NORPAC. I witnessed firsthand the incredible impact that over 20 years of cultivating relationships with members of Congress can have. This year, I am especially excited to bring my daughter so she can experience for herself the remarkable wonders of American democracy—where citizens are welcomed into congressional offices and where their voices are heard.
“With the help of NORPAC’s Talking Points, our students will be well-prepared to understand the key issues we are advocating for and the important message we are bringing to Congress on behalf of Israel.”
The NORPAC Mission offers an experience that leaves a lasting mark—direct meetings with Members of Congress and their staff, real conversations about legislation and funding that affect Israel’s security, and a chance to witness democracy in action.
This year, the stakes have never been higher.
Israel is at war. Washington is making crucial decisions every day.
We cannot afford to be silent. We cannot afford to stay home.
At this moment in history, your voice is your weapon. Advocacy is our frontline.
Whether you’re a parent or a grandparent, this is your call to action.
Stand side by side with the next generation. Teach them that leadership means showing up.
