Camp Dora Golding Camp Reporter, Week One

Take a kid from Teaneck, stick him on a bus for a few hours with a group of friends, and drop him on a desert island. Now this desert island is no ordinary island. It is filled with luscious green fields, rolling hills, a sparkling lake with a zip line overhead, a gymnasium, basketball and tennis courts, football and baseball fields, a swimming pool complete with two waterslides, a mini golf course, a rock-climbing wall and an unbelievably amazing racing track. So, correction: this is not a desert island, it’s a kid’s wonderland! Yes, I’m talking about the awesome, magic world that is Camp Dora Golding.

We arrived at camp last Sunday and were treated to a grand welcome by the staff, music and all. Since then it’s been non-stop action. I’ve already been crowned mini-golf champion, zip lined across the lake and made a splash at the swimming pool. I also had a chance to test out my driving skills on the beautiful new go-karting track. Now, this is no regular go-karting track, it’s the CDG Speedway. It’s a state-of-the-art, super-fast go-kart track, and I’ve seen some intense driving going on. The new sports program is also amazing; the coaches are top notch and really know their stuff. They’re going to make sportsmen out of us, improving our skills in hockey, baseball, flag football and my personal favorite, basketball. Watch out Lebron!

It’s only been a week and we’ve already shown off our bowling skills on Tuesday night with a special night activity; danced Wednesday night away with a big party, CDG style and learned our way into Shabbos with “ESPN,” which stands for “Enter Shabbos Properly Now,” where we spend 30 minutes before Shabbos learning. Oh and how could I forget: our grand trip to Camel Beach Water Park. CDG rented out the entire park, there were no lines and we slid down the water slides again and again and again.

So checking out for now… Don’t worry I’ll keep you all posted on the minute-to-minute happenings at CDG this summer. You won’t miss a thing—or as my mother always says, “I’ll live vicariously through you…” (Not sure what vicariously means exactly but it sounds good!)
