Yehuda Bayme, Morris and Beth Faitelewicz z”l

A Monday afternoon car crash on Route 17 in Sullivan County, New Jersey, killed Morris and Beth (Pitem) Faitelewicz, of the Lower East Side of Manhattan, as well as their future son-in-law Yehuda Bayme z”l, son of Dr. Steven and Edith Bayme, of Riverdale, NY. Yehuda was engaged to the couple’s daughter, Shani Faitelewicz, 27, who was also a passenger in the vehicle. Shani, along with her two brothers Avi and Yaakov, who were also in the vehicle, were hospitalized in stable condition.

Multiple ambulances from Hatzolah were dispatched, as well as ambulances from the local EMS and Mobilemedics and fire departments. Two choppers were initially requested as well.

Morris was a long-time Hatzolah member (ES-17), as well as a member of NYC Community Board 3. He was also the citywide coordinator and Deputy Inspector of the NYPD Auxiliary Emergency Services Rescue Unit.

According to Yeshiva World News, Morris was miraculously saved on 9/11 as he worked with hundreds of other Hatzolah members to save lives. He received a New York City Council proclamation in September 2002 honoring the unit for its volunteer work at Ground Zero on and after 9/11, as well as at other major incidents, and the Port Authority’s Exceptional Service Award in June of 2002 for his work at Ground Zero.

Beth Faitelewicz was a nurse at Beth Israel Hospital in Manhattan.

Shiva for Yehuda Bayme was planned to be observed at the Bayme home, 720 Independence Ave #1E, Riverdale, NY, from Tuesday, September 8 through Sunday mid-afternoon, September 13 (Erev Rosh Hashanah). Yehuda, who graduated from SAR in 1998, is brother of Ilana (AC ‘91) & Ari Milstein; brother of Eytan Bayme (AC ‘94) & Cymbeline Kellett; and uncle of Ian (Gr. 4), William (Gr. 2) & Samantha Milstein.

May the mourners be comforted among the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem.
