Smokey Joe’s Brings Live Music to Cedar Lane

Teaneck—Looking for a relaxing and enjoyable Saturday night activity, along with a delicious dinner? How about one that is just a little different from all others, for a reasonable price? Smokey Joe’s on Cedar Lane has the answer.

Now in its sixth year, the restaurant’s live Saturday night music has been drawing capacity crowds to these performances every Motzei Shabbat from November through February. Featuring a variety of musical genres to satisfy tastes ranging from jazz to New Orleans funk, to klezmer, to Americana and more, the events provide something for everyone.

“We recognize that different bands will appeal to, and attract, different clientele,” stated Joe Godin, proprietor of Smokey Joe’s.

The Saturday night performances offer patrons the opportunity to have a relaxing and delicious dinner, and be entertained by the music of their choice at the same time.

“The quality of music is just phenomenal,” said Godin. “These are bands worth seeing on their own.”

Godin loves that the musicians can play whatever speaks to them and fits the venue. They have the opportunity to create different moods with their music to set the musical tone for the evening.

“As a performer, I love the warm and friendly atmosphere,” said David Hirsch of the Urban Ploughboys. “Joe is open to a lot of different types of music and encourages us to play what we enjoy playing. His only requirement is that the music be fun and enjoyable.”

“The music is culturally enhancing,” added Godin. “We try to promote a sense of art and music in the Jewish community. Having live music on Cedar Lane is our effort to create something ‘interesting’ and make Teaneck an even more engaging town.”

Looking toward the future, Godin hopes to begin a Rosh Chodesh Women’s Night featuring all female bands.

“That would really be something different and special,” he observed.

The upcoming schedule at Smokey Joe’s will include Jordan Hirsch on November 14, Jersey Po’ Boys on November 21, Urban Ploughboys on November 28 and Al Watsky on December 5.

Every Saturday night features two shows, at 8 and 10, with a $9 cover charge for each. Patrons can make reservations and enjoy a reasonably priced dinner at the “world’s first authentic slow-cooked wood-fire pit-smoked Glatt kosher barbecue.” To make reservations or with questions, call (201)836-7427.
