Upon landing in the Kingdom of Bahrain on Monday evening, April 28, Governor Phil Murphy visited the House of Ten Commandments, the synagogue in Bahrain’s capital of Manama. The synagogue is the oldest in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. The Governor was greeted by Ambassador Houda Nonoo, the Kingdom of Bahrain’s former ambassador to the United States and the first – and only – Jewish ambassador from an Arab country. During his visit, he learned about the local Jewish community, their seamless integration into Bahraini society, and the Kingdom’s focus on coexistence and interfaith dialogue.

The governor visited Bahrain as part of a three-country economic tour in the GCC, where he visited the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Kingdom of Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates.
