He’Atid Second Graders Study Chromatography

Second graders at Yeshivat He’Atid learned about the science behind why leaves change color in the fall. They learned that high levels of chlorophyll in the summer mask colorful pigments of oranges and yellows. Students went on a nature walk to select leaves with high and low levels of chlorophyll. Afterwards, they used chromatography in a science experiment to find the hidden colors underneath the green leaves they picked.
