Historic First: Two He’Atid Hurricanes Teams Head To YMSSA Finals

(Courtesy of He’Atid Sports) For the first time in Yeshivat He’Atid’s history, both the girls and boys soccer teams will be representing the school in the YMSSA championship finals—an extraordinary milestone that reflects the growing strength and spirit of the Hurricanes athletic program.

The girls team earned their spot with a commanding 4–1 semifinal victory over the Ramaz Rams. Despite being the 7th seed, Ramaz had proven their strength with a quarterfinal upset over the #2 seed, Yeshivat Noam. But the Hurricanes quickly set the tone, with 8th grade defenseman Atara Cooper scoring the opening goal. Ramaz responded to tie the game before halftime, but He’Atid roared back in the third quarter. Leora Adler broke the deadlock, followed by two clutch back to back goals from 6th grader Nicole Pruzansky to build a decisive 4–1 lead. Defensive standout Amira Fleischmann anchored the back line to preserve the win.

This victory marked a historic first for the school, as it’s the first time any girls’ team from He’Atid has reached a YMSSA championship game. The Hurricanes will face top-seeded Moriah in the finals on Wednesday night, May 28. Notably, He’Atid was the only team to hold Moriah to a draw during the regular season, adding to the anticipation.

Girls coach Mikey Lehrer commented, “It was a tough game against a very strong Ramaz team, but I’m so proud of our girls who fought for every ball, played as a unified team, and took their chances when they needed to.”

Not to be outdone, the undefeated division champion boys team also secured a place in the finals after a thrilling 8–4 win over Kinneret. He’Atid took an early and comfortable lead, controlling the pace of the game from the outset. Yoni Engelsohn led the charge with a hat trick, Gabriel Kahane added two goals and Emet Seliger, Lev Kalina and Brian Friedman each chipped in one. The Hurricanes’ brick wall defense was intense and helped shut down Kinneret’s offense and maintain the lead. 8th grade goalie Aaron Weisel, provided countless blocks and crucial saves throughout the match.

The boys will face off against the Solomon Schecter Sharks in the upcoming finals. Boys coach Lance Friedman stated, “The boys have supported each other all season, and it’s reflected in their selfless play on the field.”

With both teams preparing for championship matchups, the He’Atid community is brimming with pride and excitement, rallying behind the Hurricanes as they aim to bring home their first-ever YMSSA title for the girls—and add to their legacy on the boys’ side. The Hurricanes boys team previously brought home the championship trophy in 2022 and are now looking to add a couple more to the trophy case with both teams competing for the crown this year.
