On Yom HaShoah, the JEC Middle School launched its Holocaust education curriculum with a moving program. Dr. Steven Singfer spoke to students, sharing the inspiring story of his father, Aryeh Leib Leo Singfer—a Kindertransport survivor, British paratrooper and proud builder of a Torah-centered life. Today, his legacy lives on through 32 great-grandchildren.

Eighth graders marked the day with a visit to the Museum of Jewish Heritage, where they toured the powerful “What Hate Can Do” exhibit and participated in an interactive program that allowed them to “interview” a Holocaust survivor. Their sincere questions reflected the depth of their engagement.

In the coming weeks, students across all grades will deepen their understanding of the Shoah. Sixth graders are embarking on the “JEC Remembers” project, researching and commemorating individual survivors under the guidance of Mrs. Claire Hirschhorn. Seventh graders are studying the Kindertransport and creating historical fiction books, while eighth graders are researching Righteous Gentiles and the lessons their bravery teaches us.

Through these initiatives, JEC seeks to ensure that the memory of the Holocaust remains alive and meaningful for the next generation.
