Singing, Torah, words of inspiration and, of course, Rabbi Uzi Beer’s famous pareve cholent are the hallmarks of the JEC Lower School’s monthly Friday tisch. Last week, students in grades 4-6 came together for a tisch featuring guest speaker Rabbi Jonathan Schwartz, rav of Elizabeth/Hillside’s Congregation Adath Israel. Rav Schwartz helped lead the zemirot as the tisch commenced and students began enjoying Rabbi Beer’s legendary cholent, the aroma of which permeated the entire lower school hallway. Rabbi Beer, principal of the JEC lower school followed with a lesson on communicating with Hashem. He shared with students that communication is a two-way street and that just as they daven and “speak” to Hashem, so too are they are able to “hear” Him through limud haTorah. He encouraged students to cultivate a strong rapport with Hashem in this manner.
