Fouth and fifth graders at JEC Lower School had the opportunity to step back in time and into the shoes, literally, of the Lenape Indians.
Native to the greater tri-state region, the Lenape were known for their matrilineal clan system and students were amazed at the differences between the Lenape culture and Jewish tradition. They were treated to an opportunity to try on various traditional Indian garments and work with housewares, hunting and other artifacts used by the Lenape during the 1500’s. Although they enjoyed the demonstration, students agreed that life today is much easier.
