JKHA marked Yom HaZikaron in age-appropriate ways to remember and honor Israel’s fallen. At a division-wide program, JKHA Middle School students learned about the meaning of Yom HaZikaron and had the privilege of welcoming Jonah Eisenberg (JKHA ‘16/RKYHS ‘20), who shared with students about his friend and IDF Commander Eitan Dishon z”l as well as other members of his unit who paid the ultimate price defending the Land of Israel. JKHA thanks Jonah for adding a personal element to the programming and enabling the students to perpetuate their memories.

All year middle school has introduced a mishpat hashavua, a colloquial Hebrew sentence or phrase that they’re encouraged to use in their everyday lives. Each week has been a different motto of someone who was killed in Israel since 10/7, similar to the stickers and posters that are hanging and plastered throughout Israel. In conjunction with this week’s sentence, “Remember me, I’m alive,” student groups each took one of the mottos they’ve learned during the year and designed an artistic depiction, honoring their chosen soldier’s memory and bringing them back to life.

The Bnot Sherut organized a special and meaningful project together with the lower school. They learned about the different IDF units, explored their unique roles and contributions and deepened their appreciation and gratitude for the soldiers who protect the Land of Israel and its people. They created handmade replicas of the unit’s emblems with care and creativity which are proudly displayed in the lobby.
