JKHA First Grade Studies Weather

What is the weather, and how do scientists observe it? JKHA first graders became scientists and used their senses to discover information about the weather outside. Together, the children brainstormed words to describe the weather. Then the class went outside and used their four senses of listening, smelling, touching/feeling and seeing, to add words to the class list. Words and ideas, such as sunny, no clouds, fresh grass, and blue sky were included. The class followed up with a discussion of what to wear during different types of weather. Finally, they graphed the type of weather they enjoy most and discovered that hot weather is the favorite.
