JKHA Students Hear From Holocaust Survivor

JKHA eighth graders are participating all year long in the Witness Holocaust education seminar. In tandem with the program, they had the honor of welcoming Holocaust survivor Fran Malkin to school. Ms. Malkin openly and emotionally shared her experiences, ranging from her vivid memories of watching her mother sew the Jewish star into the family’s clothing to her family’s life in the ghetto and then to her life in hiding in a pigsty for twenty-two months. As she concluded her presentation, she shared with students the story of her immigration to the United States and her choice to remain silent about her story until ten years ago. Though the program was designed to last one hour, students eagerly engaged in a question-answer session with Ms. Malkin, asking questions that were illustrative of noteworthy empathy and intellectual curiosity, going well over the allotted time. JKHA thanks Mrs Malkin for speaking with the students and providing them with this incredible opportunity.
