Kingda Ka and Green Lantern: Two Amazing Rides Have Closed at Six Flags Great Adventure

Kingda Ka has been a world-favorite roller coaster for over 20 years because of its fast speed and its tall drop. It opened in 2005 as the world’s tallest and fastest roller coaster, but unfortunately all good rides have an end. This year, Kingda Ka has malfunctioned a lot, which made it fall back a lot and not go over its big drop. Rumors said that it was going to close November 11, 2024. However, Six Flags never said it actually will.

Unfortunately the rumors were true. Kingda Ka closed November 11, along with Green Lantern. Six Flags knew it was going to be hard to say they are closing Kingda Ka, so they announced that it will be replaced by a world-record, multi-launch roller coaster in 2026. Now the tallest roller coaster in the world is Top Thrill 2 at Cedar Point. Even though it will be replaced by a world-record roller coaster, November 11 was still a very sad day.

Green Lantern is a very rare type of ride, because it’s a stand-up roller coaster. Green Lantern opened in 2011. It may not have been a popular ride, however, November 11, 2024 was still a sad day. It closed because the ride hurt riders during the loops. It will help make room for the multi-launch roller coaster replacing Kingda Ka.

Now since I have gotten through the bad news, here is the good news. The new roller coaster THE FLASH Vertical Velocity has been tested, and it is all set to debut in 2025. Six Flags Great Adventure might have its ups and downs, but it is still an amazing park.
