Leffell Middle School Faculty Share Expertise

Two members of the Middle School faculty at The Leffell School spoke at three professional conferences the week of January 29, sharing their expertise with other educators.

Middle School Principal Lauren Goldberg was a panelist at the Facing History Jewish Education Partner School Network Conference in Memphis, Tennessee, where educators discussed best practices for encouraging students to explore their own identities, find their own voices and identify ways to make a positive impact in their community, while grappling with challenging historical content. Goldberg’s participation in the conference, including travel expenses, was generously funded by Facing History and Ourselves, the host organization.

Middle School Ivrit (Hebrew) Department Chair Sarit Nevo led two workshops at the Global Language Conference sponsored by the New York State Association of Independent Schools (NYSAIS), where she taught other educators about engaging students in learning through contemporary music and extensive authentic reading. Nevo shared how The Leffell School integrates themes of identity, culture and Israel education in Hebrew language instruction. It was a busy week for Nevo, as she also presented at Hitkadmut: The Hebrew Educators Conference. The theme of her presentation was Inspiring Hebrew Engagement Through Literature.

The Leffell School is proud that its esteemed faculty is recognized by their peers for their knowledge and experience and can share that with other teachers to take back to their own schools and students.
