Missing the Point on Trump

I was amused at Mr. Sandor’s letter blasting my defense of President Trump (“Drain the Trump Swamp,” September 6, 2018).

I write many letters to The Jewish Link, a newspaper that caters to Orthodox Jews in a relatively affluent community. This constitutes one of Trump’s hard-core support groups, so I am often criticized for “preaching to the choir.” However, what is overlooked is the fact that the “choir” actually consists mostly of Jews who are lifelong Democrats, and as seen by Mr. Sandor’s letter, also Trump haters.

Unfortunately, what is not amusing is the dire situation today of Jews throughout the world. Almost the entire region of Africa and the Middle East, except for Israel, has already been completely cleansed of Jews and remains Judenrein. And even tiny Israel itself is entirely surrounded by, and under constant attack by, its Arab/Muslim “neighbors” with their huge hostile populations. Also Jews in much of Europe, including France, Britain, Scandinavia, Austria and Germany, which were overrun by a massive influx of Muslim “refugees,” now face a precarious situation, anxious of what the future holds for them. It is ominously reminiscent of the 1930s.

Finally, we come to the United States, that magnificent safe haven for Jews over the years, and the most ardent ally of Israel, more so under Trump than any other president in American history. How do Jews show their appreciation? Three quarters are ardent Trump haters and Democrat supporters, even though the Democratic Party is now under the strong influence of far-left anti-Israel, anti-Semitic leadership like Sanders, Ellison and Farrakhan.

And therein lies the crux of my angst; no “rose-colored glasses” here. We tiny group of Jews are busy being consumed with irrational hatred and petty politics, instead of banding together to support one another. If another great tragedy is in the making, I’m afraid Jews themselves, who will ultimately all be affected, must bear a major part of the blame.
