A Thank You and Clarification

I write to thank you for printing the news story about my retirement from Bruriah High School for Girls and from a 60-year career in teaching (“Celebrating My Dad’s Retirement from Bruriah High School and Teaching,” Aug. 27, 2020).

I have been very gratified to see the many encouraging messages of support and reminiscences that were inspired by this news story—both those commenting on the Jewish Link’s Facebook posting of the article and the two dozen or so emails I’ve received since the article was printed. From what I see, your newspaper travels far and is well read—especially among my former students.

Allow me to correct one small omission as well. In my conversation with my son, Harry, to help him prepare the news story, I asked him to include mention of the different relatives I had the privilege to teach. When I listed for him the different relatives, I forgot to mention my niece Dara (now Dara Silverstein of Englewood). Dara was a memorable student, too, who (among other things) helped lead a student strike against the class rules. I regret the omission.

Thank you, again, to The Jewish Link for publishing this news story.
