The Festivus Season, Already? Airing Jewish Link Grievances

I have been meaning to write this letter to the editor for some time. I like to receive bad news first, so here it is: I think The Jewish Link is way too big. This week’s edition (December 10) was 152 pages! I read books shorter than that. Furthermore, I think there are not enough substantive editorials, op-eds and the like, and too many ads for chicken cutlets.

Now the good news: I welcome the give-and-take on issues, be it COVID, mask wearing, school tuition or “name withheld” letters to the editor. I also love that this area of the world has a paper that mostly reflects the diversity of our community.

But here is my main point: The Jewish Link, in my opinion, is not “our” newspaper any more than is The New York Times or Sports Illustrated. The newspaper is privately owned and operated. The paper can print what it likes. I myself have had articles and/or letters rejected, and all I can do is hope for the best the next time. (That would be now.) As noted, I don’t agree with some of The Link’s decisions, articles and directions, but that’s my problem, not yours.

I marvel at the nerve of some who think they have a say or write to tell the paper what it should or should not include. But next week, maybe under 150 pages?
