Linking Northern and Central NJ, Bronx, Manhattan, Westchester and CT

I noticed a feature article in this past week’s issue (“Miracle of the Week With Rofeh Cholim Cancer Society,” April 7, 2022) and cannot pass on the opportunity to both express my personal hakarat hatov to that unbelievable organization and vouch for its worthiness of our funds. The bottom line is that they save lives. Although not a medical service per se, they guide, advise, recommend, support and give chizuk to the patient and their family—each day, every day, all the time, day or night.

I could consume an entire issue but I’ll offer one small anecdote. Their case managers are experts in their field. I doubt mine saw the light of a secular studies elementary school, but he knows his business as well as the best doctors in the field. They helped me make the decision to stay local and seek treatment with a very talented group right here in New Jersey. However, I knew that my guardian angels at RCCS were having my case monitored by their experts as well.

They did not divulge who the doctor was, and I did not press to know. After treatment, I learned that I was being monitored by a doctor in Indiana University Medical Center—the founding doctor actually wrote the textbook used by the world to treat the malady I had. To put it in context, Memorial Sloan Kettering refers their complex cases to these doctors and RCCS has them on speed-dial and were monitoring my case at no charge and even without my knowing. More recently, I had a (medical) shaila and needed a consult. They referred me, again, to the No. 1 surgeon in the world, best qualified to answer the question.

I offer these vignettes only to provide a glimpse into this very special organization. I encourage your readership to support them. Like an insurance policy, you never know they exist until you need them and if ch’v you do, you’re thankful as I am each day for their support.

Chag Kasher V’sameach.
