After mastering basic skills such as contour line, composition and chiaroscuro the 10th grade elective art students are embarking upon creating a very personal work of art. Since Ma’ayanot is focusing on Hineini as a theme for the academic year 2023-2024, each student was asked to interpret what Hineini means to them and use their own hand gestures to symbolize personal ideas. Photographs of the hand gesticulations using a single light source were taken and students proceeded to create their compositions based on their photos. Basic anatomical studies of the hand are referred to as each student draws their hands and Hebrew text is carefully manipulated within the picture plane to further emphasize meaning to their artworks.
