It is music that draws the eyes and ears of the world to the Grammy awards. But the fashion show on the red carpet is eagerly anticipated. What the performers wear is a statement of who they are, and how their essence is translated by designers into a sumptuous visual display. Miri Couture was the star of this show at the February 12, 2017, Grammy awards ceremony, with gowns worn by singers Camila Cabello and Kriss Mincey. Their stylists sought out Miri Urbach for gowns that celebrate glamour with a harmonious blend of elegance and, yes, modesty.

“Modest” usually has a nanoparticle-size role in celebrity fashion, but Miri Couture designs show how a woman can be alluring without being overtly sensational. Camila Cabello, a 19-year-old singer who used to be with a group called Fifth Harmony, was a presenter at the awards wearing a princess-look gown with gray and purple tulle embellished by sparkling flowers. The gown was called “ultra-feminine and refined yet festive” by the fashion press.

Kriss Mincey, a soul and jazz singer, wore a form-skimming mermaid-style gown with white sequins, shoulder cutouts and a long train. “Stunning,” was a frequent description of the gown on social media posts.

The Grammy Awards ceremony wasn’t the only venue for celebrities where Miri Couture gowns took center stage. Actress Mayim Bialik wore a Miri Couture gown with bold, colorful stripes to the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) awards on January 29, 2017, in Los Angeles.

Bialik’s stylist had sought out Urbach for the Modern Orthodox actress after searching for a designer who could meet her requirements. Miri Urbach was the name she kept hearing. Urbach said she chose the striped gown for its fit and vibrant colors. “Stripes are a hot design trend now, and I thought this would be a flattering look for her,” Urbach said in a phone interview.

Following Bialik’s appearance, stylists for Cabello and Mincey contacted Urbach. “I researched each star to get to know who they are and what they like. Then I worked with the stylists on the details,” Urbach said.

The gowns can be ordered at Miri Couture, 37 North Dean Street, Englewood. Other locations include Cedarhurst, Brooklyn, Lakewood, London, England and Israel. A new store will be opening soon in Los Angeles.
