Atlas Healthcare to Revitalize Struggling Clifton Nursing Home

Atlas Healthcare acquires Daughters of Miriam with plans to revive after COVID challenges.

Atlas Healthcare, New Jersey’s leading healthcare consulting and management firm, is pleased to announce their recent acquisition of Daughters of Miriam (DOM), a 100-year-old long-term care facility in Clifton. The facility is now Atlas Rehabilitation and Healthcare at Daughters of Miriam.

Since 1921, DOM has served the elderly population of Northern New Jersey with singular care and dedication. However, due to long-term financial challenges exacerbated by COVID-19, the nursing home and its subsidiary, The Gallen Institute for Subacute Care, were unable to continue operating independently. Atlas, which specializes in revitalizing struggling skilled nursing facilities, stepped in to ensure that the facility’s century-long reputation of premier senior care can continue. “As the owner/operator of Atlas Healthcare, we are committed to providing the same high quality of care for which Daughters of Miriam Center has been known all these years,” said Atlas Healthcare CEO Phil Bak. “Carrying on that legacy is very important. It’s not something we take lightly.”

To prepare for the transfer of ownership on June 1, Atlas held a town hall meeting with staff and residents to discuss upcoming changes and express their commitment to improving all aspects of the facility—including the appointment of seasoned administrator Michelle Reich. Reich entered the field of eldercare in her early 20s, inspired by the strength and morals with which her grandmother, a Czechoslovakian Holocaust survivor, helped raise her. Since then, she has brought skill, talent and heart to every facility she’s headed, including her prior post at the Runnells Center for Rehabilitation & Healthcare in Berkeley Heights.

Daughters of Miriam is the first of a planned handful of acquisitions that Atlas Healthcare will complete by the end of 2022, with the vision of creating a network of facilities in New Jersey all under the Atlas umbrella. As the first kosher facility that Atlas has acquired, the firm will continue providing a full spectrum of services founded on Jewish values and that accommodate a Jewish lifestyle, including maintaining the kosher kitchen, on-site synagogue, and the services of Rabbi Moshe Mirsky, head of religious services the for nursing home and the independent living facility since 2014.

Atlas Healthcare was founded in 2018 by Phil Bak and Sam Goldberger, who share decades of experience in the senior care industry and who have revitalized dozens of facilities as consultants and managers. They are known for creating warm, welcoming communities for both residents and staff, raising the bar for customer service, maintaining the highest level of standards and integrating the latest technology and evidence-based practices to ensure the most optimal outcomes.

Atlas of Daughters of Miriam is now hiring. Now is the time to join this seasoned and dedicated team and be a part of 100 plus years of excellence. They are currently accepting applications for RNs, LPNs and CNAs and are excited to announce they have opened their subacute units and are accepting admissions. Please contact Michelle Reich at (973)772-3900 or [email protected].
