MRM Music Brings Music of All Types to Any Event

Moshe Masri wants to make the world a more musical place. He always loved music, and enjoyed all different styles too. He grew up in Brooklyn, his parents are from Argentina and his grandparents are from Syria which led to an eclectic background from which he drew his musical tastes.

As a boy he recalled that he would listen to any music he could find – Jewish music, radio, Latino, Arabic or Israeli – and was always found singing around his house. This love of music carried into his adult life. He found himself working in a music production company, a fitting environment for his passion for song.

Of course, he didn’t stop surrounding his world with music once he got home. His office at home was more of a studio. After work he would practice music there, playing, adjusting beats up and down and making his own mixes, “just for fun.” His wife would hear the sounds coming from his office and encourage him to make a business out of it. “Go out and make people happy with the talent you have,” she told him. But Masri resisted. “I didn’t think playing for business would be the same as playing for the fun of it in my house,” he said. Eventually, however, he listened to his wife, bought the equipment necessary including sound mixers and computers, and started his own business as a DJ known as MRM Music.

Now, more than 10 years later, Masri credits his mixed background with helping to shape his music interests and the success of his business. “I can play any music my audience wants,” Masri said, explaining that his musical tastes are more than the traditional styles. “I do chassidic parties in Williamsburg, Israeli music for people from Israel living here, as well as the range of interests in Flatbush, Monsey, the Five Towns and of course, Teaneck. I will cater to whatever people request, and I know the music they ask for.” He explained that Teaneck is a community with a wide variety of musical tastes and requests at their parties. Some simchas want only Jewish music, some want a top 40 playlist, some want a mix of all different styles. With his background and knowledge of genres, he is able to fulfill his clients’ requests. “My clients always come away happy and tell me the music was exactly what they wanted.”

Masri enjoys his work immensely, and also loves seeing his three children, ages 14, 10 and 8 take their own interest in music. “As soon as music goes on, they start to dance and sing,” he said. “My wife was right when she told me to make this move.”
