This past Wednesday, Moriah’s Nursery, Pre-K, and Kindergarten students celebrated Mimouna—a joyous post-Pesach celebration that marks the return to chametz, a new season ahead, and honors Morrocan Jewish heritage.
Led by Moriah’s Sephardic Culture Committee, the children explored the beauty of this tradition. EC Director Morah Divsha Tollinsky began by reading a story about Mimouna night and discussing the children’s wishes for the year ahead. The children decorated “bracha flowers,” danced, and watched a video about Mimouna celebrations in Israel. The highlight? Tasting mufleta (sweet, thin pancakes) and berkushk—a traditional North African dish made with buttery couscous and milk, symbolizing abundance and sweetness ahead.
A meaningful and memorable day for all—full of tradition, culture, and community! A big thank you to the committee of parents for running the day and to Moriah Grandparent Rackel Bouskila for baking over 300 moufletas, along with Morot Orly and Pninit.
